I’ve given many hours of of thought to what it takes to distill into bite sized chunks what gets in the way of being a deliberate creator. I’ve studied, read, practiced, played, created and taught many tools to myself and others to assist them into alignment with their desires.
What I’ve found is that there are three major keys that align us with our desires manifesting. If you have been wanting to become a powerful co-creator of your experience but find you don’t sustain significant progress, consider that:
1) you may not have defined what you want without contradicted energy running simultaneously,
2) you may not be taking the right kind of action, or
3) there are more unconscious beliefs causing you to sabotage and block yourself from lasting results.
What if you are presently creating your life? Are you enjoying the results?
What if you’re deliberately trying to design your life but don’t like what you’re getting?
And what if you can’t blame the economy, your Ex-spouse, your teenager, or politicians for any of it?
Ouch!
I know it can be a tough pill to swallow. But along with the fact that you can’t blame anyone (not even yourself) for what you’re living, you can derive a tremendous amount of personal power when you’re willing to take responsibility for the life you have now.
Taking responsibility means you’ve taken your power back. Now you can start directing your life in a meaningful way. What are those three powerful keys to deliberate creation?
Get crystal clear about what you want. Ask yourself these questions: What do I want? Why do I want it? How will it feel when I have what I want? Answering these questions will help you get clear about what you want. Just be clear, is what you want a goal that belongs to you or someone else? Do you want it from the point of view of scarcity and fear, or does that desire pull you into joyful action?
When your desires are clear it’s easy to take aligned and inspired action. We were taught that working hard, struggle and striving built character. It doesn’t work that way with inspired action. With inspired action you may be putting in long hours, but it’s fun, time flies. You’d willing do that action all day – every day.
And … Most Important of All!
You’ve heard a radio station that’s not tuned in properly. The static is the resistance, the noise, the impedance, the blockage. It shows up as the inner critic, limiting self-talk, the conscious and unconscious programs that keep us apart from our desires manifesting.
You must surface up unconscious and limiting beliefs that block your from lasting success – the noise, limiting self-talk, inner critic – the static is the resistance. It’s keeping you from what you want.
Limiting beliefs can feel like they have a strangle-hold on you. Addressing them is not usually a one time event. You can soften their grip by asking yourself some questions. “Is that my truth? Where did that belief come from? Who’s voice is telling me that’s true?”
We’ve all inherited a large portion of our world view from our elders. It takes some guidance, persistence, kindness (to self) and patience. Mastering your mindset is possible, and like anything that takes mastery you owe it to yourself to adopt a daily practice that supports this kind of thinking.
Fortunately, there is a growing audience of people who are taking their brain, their mind and personal power back. We have reached critical mass on planet earth. The most important part is that you remain consistent, deliberate and kind to yourself and have fun on your journey. All is well and getting better.
Once and for all, Do Affirmations Work, or Not?
It’s actually a bit of a coin toss unless you’re absolutely clear about the effective guidelines on how to create and utilize your affirmations.
The two words “I Am” are two of the most powerful words in the English language. These two words are the basic building block of affirmations.
You can use affirmations to shift a mood or amp up your energy.
You can use affirmations to re-train your brain for expecting manifestations.
You can use affirmations to recast your expectations.
You can use affirmations to empower your goals.
You can use affirmations to become more magnetic to your desires.
To build confidence when creating your affirmations, please note that you must start where you are. As obvious as that may seem, the fact is wherever you are on the path of achieving your goals, you’re not there yet or you wouldn’t be affirming what you desire.
You must being where you are. Many people trample over their current low energy and want to run all the way BLISS. You must be honest about where you are. From there you can move up the energy scale quickly by taking mindful steps to higher intention and greater attraction.
Be honest with yourself about where you are emotionally. Don’t worry, you won’t be there long. In fact, you can pivot right off that point so you can begin to train your energy; mind and emotions to expect wonderful things in a few short minutes.
You can’t get to blissed out manifestation from low grade depression. Use affirmations to raise your energy. Take it a step at a time. Because the Law of Attraction matches your energy, keep reaching for a better feeling by using affirmations.
Goal: To lose 15 pounds.
Your feelings and thoughts run along these lines:
“I feel disgusted with myself. I’ve gained more weight on top of already being overweight. It’s going to be a struggle. I’ve come to rely on mid-day treats to boost my energy. I love sweet snacks. It feels like a ‘no win’ situation.”
The fact is you are vibrationally transmitting those thoughts and feelings. To deny that by slapping an Affirmation on top of that simply won’t work. The Universe speaks the language of energy, not English, German, Spanish or Swahili — but ENERGY.
It is of utmost importance that you find that ‘feeling place’ with your affirmations.
Find the feeling of how you will feel when. . .
… When you fit into all the beautiful clothes in your closet.
… When you like what you see in the mirror.
… When your confidence soars.
… When you enjoy the freedom of movement in your body.
From there you can go anywhere and the Law of Attraction will support you.
For example,
I feel great. I feel free and confident in my body now.
I am loving my flexibility and freedom of movement.
I feel strong, confident, vital and attractive.
More Law of Attraction Affirmation TipsSince all there really is at any moment is the present, ALWAYS phrase your affirmation in the present tense. Avoid the present progressive or gerund form, such as “I am going to be fit and trim”. This places the event in the future. Similarly, stay away from the future tense as well such as, “I will eat healthy portions.” The future never comes – it’s always in the future. The present is all we have.
1. State your affirmations in the present tense.
2. Keep them languaged in the positive! Never use the negative form such as: “I won’t overeat today. I am no longer an emotional eater.”
3. Keep your affirmations short and sweet.
4. Create affirmations that feel good to you.
5. Always say your affirmations with joyful expectancy ‘as if’ that experience is yours NOW.
Remember, the Universe is listening in on what you’re transmitting. Take the time to tune in and notice what you’re actually transmitting. Use affirmations deliberately to move preferred thoughts and energy in. Now you’re attracting what you want!
You were meant to thrive, succeed, and experience life to its fullest. Use Law of Attraction Affirmations to move your energy, and attract and achieve your goals. Backed with positive emotion, you can achieve and attract any good thing.

Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa & New Years – all holidays we love to celebrate. I’m curious, how did you dress?
Did you dress to impress, did you dress for comfort or did you get dressed in festive holiday motifs? Anyway you dress is fine, as long as you’re feeling happy and well. But let me take it a step further. How did you dress energetically?
What do I mean by dressing energetically?
It’s so easy to let the momentum of the holidays and the season overtake us. We feel the stress accumulate from rushing to get that last 5 things done. We aim to please by saying “yes” to another invitation. We eat too many rich foods, skip the exercise or meditation and sleep a little less.
How did you manage your energy? Did you intend in advance of going into action? Did you dress with the energy of your intentions? I play a little game with myself and my clients. It’s called “Get dressed in energetic attire.” You imagine yourself standing in front of a 3-way mirror and you try on clothes of positive emotion. Next, you notice how it feels. You look at yourself, turn around and feel how good you feel with the different states of emotion. We practice this in advance of going into action, especially a challenging action.
This Christmas I had dinner for 16. I got dressed with the energy of grace, elegance, and deliciousness. I sent the intentions that all my dishes being timed properly, tasting scrumptious. I intended that people arrive on time, dinner be served on time. I intended for a joyful, peaceful, contented group of sharing and interactions. It all came together better than I could have hoped for!!
It was the same for my clients in our Mindset Mastery group. They reported having very blessed, contented and joyful holidays. Wow – to be able to pre-intend and get what you want or better. Now that’s worth practicing, wouldn’t you agree?
How will you get dressed? Dress in prosperity, dress in confidence, dress in laughter. Play, imagine, intend. It’s fun and it works.

It has been for me. And not always in the most pleasant of ways! There have been lots of things getting my attention. I’ve been releasing sadness from the loss of two family members, dealing with another illness of a sister. Ups and downs and lots of unconscious material coming to the surface.
Can you relate?
We call that contrast. It’s the contrast to what is desired. Please don’t misunderstand, contrast is not bad. It’s not to be avoided, and it is not wrong. Contrast is part of the human condition in our free will universe. Without contrast life would be bland. We’d have no distinctions. Contrast: here/there, up/down, want/have, fear/peace, confused/clear.
If there was no contrast, there’d be no distinctions, no differences, everything would be the same. How boring! It’s true when contrast is intense we want a break in the extreme contrast. That’s why I’m writing this post to show you how you can take it a little easier and to share how the gift of contrast can be used for clarity.
We note that sometimes things show up that we don’t really care for and that causes us to feel negative emotion. As deliberate creators we do well to remember the function contrast. Contrast helps us clarify what we want. This “something” has our attention. We focus on that annoying, scary (contrasting) situation. However, because we know the thing that has our attention is some thing we don’t want, we’re now in the perfect position to clearly define what it is we DO want. Clarity through contrast.
Here are Three Clarifying Questions designed to help you be attractive to what you want.
“What do I want?”
Make sure you’re getting clear on all the details of what you want. Enjoy the specifics of what you want. If you start to get the “Yeah, Buts,” back it down to a more general desire until you can clear out some of the resistant thoughts, emotions and beliefs.
“Why do I want it?”
Most of us answer this question backward. We answer why we ‘don’t’ want it. Like this: I want a loving relationship because I’m sick of being alone on Saturday nights. Plus, it’s cheaper to live as a couple. Can you see why stating more of what you don’t want stops the attractor factor?
State WHY you want what you want in compelling, high energy descriptions. Write it down so you can reference those exact details for the next step.
“How will it feel once I have it?”
This is the Golden Nugget. Describe how you will feel once you have what you want – now you’re actively in the attraction mode. You’re vibing to the energy of already having it. Play in this space daily. Stay there for 30 seconds at a time. Engage all the senses, really feel it. Imagine calling your best friend and telling her with excited enthusiasm “Guess what….. ?” As if it just arrived!
That’s how to really ramp up the attractor factor. Stay with this practice. Manifestation is not instant for most of us. Make it fun, keep your attention focused on how it feels to have it. Our biggest work as deliberate creators is to stay in the higher vibe ranges of trust, appreciation and expectancy.

Not tuning in to your energy and emotions could cost you a lot more than you bargained for this holiday season. Following the guidance that your emotions can provide you is the single most important practice for the Deliberate Creator.
Why is positive mental attitude over-rated? Feel the fear and do it anyway? I don’t think so.
Fake it ’til you make it? Not a good plan.
Why am I asserting all these things we’ve all heard over and over again – don’t work?
There’s one simple reason. There’s an all important element missing in the equation. What’s the missing element? It’s your emotions. More specifically, it’s the disregard of your emotions as information.
We all know that everything is energy. Your emotions are energy, too. How you feel is a sort of bio-feedback mechanism. Your energy, via your emotions, is a reference point telling you how you are focusing your attention. Blindly forcing a positive mental attitude (PMA) on top of negative emotion is a disregard for the information your emotional guidance system is trying to show you.
Feeling fear, anxiety, anger (or any negative emotion) and then going into action anyway is a poor use of your energy. The results you get won’t be as satisfying, if you get results at all. Faking it until you make it might fool some people and last in the short term. But you can’t fool Mother Nature. You can’t fool the Universe with inauthentic (misaligned) action or energy.
We all know what mis-aligned energy and actions feel like. Have you ever been there? I have. It’s especially easy to get out of whack during the holidays. Doing things you think you ‘should’ do with a disregard for self-care. Too much running around. Too many parties. Eating and spending too much. These are all actions that pull us farther away from well-being.
Aligned energy and actions are things that feel good when you do them. It feels like you’re going with the flow, rather than bucking the current. It’s like driving and getting green lights all day long.
As you plan all your goings and doings for the day, keep in mind how you want to feel through it all. What do you intend to accomplish and how do you want to feel? By simply calling to mind your intentions before you take action, you send a powerful energy current in advance of your actions. Try it. You’re going to like it because it really works.
We all have too many ‘shoulds’ placed on us by ourselves or others. So I reflect back to you: “Is it a SHOULD or a MUST?” In other words, if it’s a MUST (like paying the rent) then it’s an agreed upon arrangement that you entered into and it’s your responsibility to honor your commitment. To remain in integrity, that would be a MUST.
A SHOULD, on the other hand, is an entirely different situation. Ask yourself a different set questions:
“Will it add to my well-being or diminish it?”
“Am I doing it in order to look good or gain approval?”
“Who’s point of view is running my decision to do this thing?”
Can you imagine what our lives would be like if we put our well-being in the first position? Perhaps you think that would be selfish. My own mother would. She sacrificed it all, her emotional balance, her health, her happiness. She was raised believing you have to sublimate your self for the family. From my point of view, that didn’t work out so well.
Well-Being, Vitality, Joy, Fulfillment, Freedom, Generosity, Flexibility, Creativity. Those states of being all equate with being connected with our Source (I call that God). That’s our true identity. When we vibrate our true nature – everybody wins.
This holiday season make it a Win-Win. Delegate to others when making your (never-ending) To Do List. Allow them to get in on the contribution. Let them know you appreciate it and that they’re an important piece to the holiday mix.
Take time for you. Put your feet up. Take daily 15 minute time-outs with nothing at all to do. Make one less meal. Go to one less party. Like and approve of yourself.
What if you could manage your energy this well all year long? It might become a new habit. We all have endless opportunities to get it right. Any time you notice your energy going south, simply notice the pattern and consciously choose to shift your focus. This approach is so much different than feeling the fear, or slapping a positive affirmation on top of anxiety. Conscious choice is evolution of consciousness.
All our energy; emotions, thoughts and feelings are either by choice of by default. Evolve your state of being by choosing your energy preference. May you enjoy success deliberately choosing your energy. And may you have a holiday filled with well-being, loving connection and joy.
If you think that energy was moving fast before, the holidays can turbo boost that energy into levels that can tip the scale. That can feel like dread, anxiety, and overwhelm. Why is that?
Think of it this way, if everything is energy and we’re all in motion, the holidays bring up a lot more activity and emotion. Much of that energy and emotion is unconscious. So if we don’t have coping mechanisms, or energy practices in place for well-being we can tend to be pulled along with the undertow.
Good health, good fortune, contentment, success, abundance, freedom, enjoyment. Ease in body, mind and spirit. Clarity and ability to choose wisely. That covers well-being for me. Contrast that list of descriptive states of well-being with what normally happens during the holidays.
Cooking too much, eating too much of the wrong foods. Jamming in another party, rushing out to buy another last minute gift. Dropping the exercise or meditation routine because there’s too much to do. Eating too much sugar, drinking too much alcohol. Bloating. Wow, what a contrast!
It’s true there’s some merry making in between it all, but at what cost? If you’re the kind of person who has a hard time saying “No,” then it’s that much more imperative that you find your boundaries and honor them.
I propose that you can establish healthy boundaries, enjoy the holidays, and remain in a state of well-being. How, you ask? By practicing these quick and easy energy tips and tools.
Close your eyes. Place your hand on your heart. Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth. Exhale on the syllable – Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Do this 3 times.
Conscious breathing will bring you back into your body and thereby brings you back into the present moment. All of your power is in the here and now. When you run into the future, planning on what you need to do next and how you’re going to fit it all in today, not only do you breath shallowly, your cortisol levels spike. And you know what cortisol, stress do for increasing belly fat.
Instead tune in, breathe and trigger the comfort hormone, oxytocin. You do things for your entire nervous system when you breath this way.
If you have a hard time saying “No”, you’re not alone. The people pleaser in us wants to be of service. We often feel flattered being asked, being needed. You don’t have to alienate someone by saying No outright. It’s easier when you don’t have to commit in the moment. Try offering that you have to check your schedule against the family schedule first. This buys you time. It’s will be a lot easier to center yourself and respond later that you just can’t fit that duty into your schedule.
What if I could wave my magic wand and give you a magic wand? What if you were Queen for the day and you could delegate? What if five of those ten things were insignificant things that don’t really need to get done? What if you could be of service in ways that are great but don’t cost you a lot of energy or stress? Hmmmm, what if that was sharing some encouragement, a compliment, or a smile? What if you spent a few moments appreciating everyone who wants your attention? What if you empowered them to do things for themselves? Or even for you?! What if it could all really be that easy? Wow, what if?
Don’t you feel lighter already? What if you could? See how shifting your focus on what’s possible has a lightening effect? And do you see how quickly that happens?
Practice these tips when you don’t need them. That way they’ll be at your fingertips when you do need them. Remember to tune in to the present moment with your breathing. Learn to say YES to you by saying NO to the frenzy. And take a few moments to engage your imagination for lightening your load. When you use these quick tips, you’ll tap into your natural state of well-being, have a lot more personal power and enjoy the holidays more than ever.

Why not use the single most miraculous part of our human physiology to win at life? We were all born to thrive. It just seems as though big pieces of the puzzle have been left out making it difficult to assemble a workable picture.
It’s not your fault. Most of us weren’t taught to use our magnificent brain and think creativity. We don’t utilize anywhere near our potential. You know GIGO? Garbage in, garbage out. I don’t know about you, but this is how I was taught in school. Facts, dates or wars, dates of inventions, all manner of information with no apparent relationship to historic time periods, or cultural climates – no context for what it means in a way that matters – at least certainly not to a school aged youngster. At least that was my experience.
Then we wonder why 1) things don’t change much (or slowly devolve) 2) why it’s hard to ‘show initiative’ and 3) why buck the current when the status quo has been so deeply entrenched the old guard of thinking.
Ever heard of “the Shift”? It’s a shift in consciousness. It’s the acceleration of the evolution of consciousness. Brain science is teaching us that it’s possible to expand our brain capacity and thereby accelerate our mind’s capabilities.
New mental abilities give us abilities to access new information. New paradigms start to arise. New paradigms give us new ways of expressing new thought, new solutions, new possibilities, perhaps even a new language. It’s time. In fact, it’s looooong overdue.
Outmoded belief systems keep the dog chasing his tail. The construct of winning and losing keeps belief in scarcity; competition for resources, even for attention and affection, as only available for the few, the strongest; survival of the fittest.
Consider it’s time for a new game. A new earth. Imagine if we were all encouraged to dream big? What if, alongside learning the rudiments of education, we were taught to solve problems with the highest and best in mind? Sure some excel in areas, where others don’t. I’m not saying that there’s no differentiation. I am saying that everyone has a unique contribution – everyone gets to shine.
When you begin in the inquiry of “what’s possible”, you activate new neural protein combinations. You activate non-local universal mind. Imagine amplifying your mental abilities to attract more solutions to problems, to receive more answer to questions, to allow more finding to what you’re seeking.

You may know that last week I was invited to be part of a special event in Raleigh, NC called “Speaking of Women’s Health.” I joined 9 other local authors and closed the evening with a special song. If you read last week’s blog post, you’ll know that I had some “SHOULDS” (disempowering beliefs) in place from my training as an opera singer.
Well, here’s how my own personal mindset mastery lesson played out…
Oh boy, I forgot about constant air conditioning and blowing fans EVERYWHERE. In the triple digit summer heat that can wreak havoc on fragile little vocal folds. Dryness. Squeaks in the upper register. I’d been sleeping with the fan on me for weeks. Hydration at this point requires more than just water. What to do?
What I’m putting my attention is expanding. Oh-oh. That spells NERVES. Great! So all the concerns, shoulds of last week start gaining momentum. Now what? Hope that on D-Day the dryness has lessened, and my cords are fine.
The night of the Event, I have a restful sleep. A couple hours later, I test out my voice. Feels good except for the squeaks around F# and G (important notes for this aria). Okay. Steam. Right, I’ll steam. Too little, too late? [Internal dialog is sounding off, big time] What was I thinking? All the talking, no place to warm up at the venue, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
“Hold on, diva” I say to myself. You are masterful. You’ve dedicated over half your life to your vocal excellence. This is not the time to cave. Plus, Remember: fun, joy, self-expression, the love, and sharing? Remember WHY you do this? That’s right. I remember. And I know solidly what I can count on. I can count on my mastery, my training, my knowing, my love.
It turns out that not only did I nail it at the sound check. I nailed in a second time to close out the Event. People were on their feet. People were in tears. They told me how moved they were, about the chills they experienced. We had a shared love-fest experience. How perfect is that? Speaking of Women’s Health, and all the amazing people I met, I’d say life doesn’t get much better than that.
I’m so glad I know what I can count on. Mindset Mastery takes something. It takes a desire and a passion. The good news is that you start can building mastery muscles fast because the Universe recognizes and matches with your excellence, desire and passion.

Like when you push a button (like a door bell) you expect a sound to go off telling you someone is at the door.
Same with our knee-jerk reactions, unconscious triggers and hot buttons. Something happens, someone does or says something and you respond with a typical or predictable response. Pretty unconscious, huh?
If you think about it anything (everything) that pushes your buttons is just an artifact from the past. That is, if it didn’t remind you of something, it wouldn’t trigger a familiar response.
If you had no reference point for the situation, you’d have reacted with curiosity rather than be reactive. We can always count on our brains to sort experiences into useful categories. The problem is, sometimes we want to stop the knee-jerk responses and find flexible ways of being.
Sometimes it’s useful to categorize events into “Like and don’t like” scenarios. Sometimes it’s limiting. As you know, I love researching about all the latest in brain science (especially Neuroplasticity) and mindset studies. We know that the more we stimulate our brains to experience new learning, the faster we can build the brain’s capacity for even more learning and resiliency.
I started thinking about how often something new and unique occurs in my life. I’ve started to look for areas in my life where I can expand myself, my talents, my interests. That in itself is peculiar since I typically hunker down for a long, hot summer. (And we’ve been experiencing weeks of record heat waves!)
But I actually feel refreshed with what I’ve come up with – the means of stretching myself outside my comfort zone.
As I was trained, you NEVER perform something you’ve just learned. And you ALWAYS ONLY sing what’s in your voice category. You may not grasp the depth of the “shoulds and supposed-tos” I was trained under.
I’m busting up mental barriers, baby.
So I guess my plate is filling. What about you?
What could you do to fire off and re-wire some neurons?
Break up the routines. Find new ways to drive home from work. Go out of your way to start a conversation with a stranger.
Question the reactions. Ask yourself “Is it true?” “Are they really rude and inconsiderate? Or is it my interpretation of an event?” It could just be that your buttons are triggering old worn out additive responses. You can choose to think again.
What could you be curious about?
A humming bird? The origin of someone’s last name? A little Internet research on your favorite fruit? How about joining your kid and learning a new word a day?
Does it seem silly? Silly is good in my world. Silliness and breaking up old habits will keep you young, interesting, and vital for a looooooong time. Do I have any takers??
P.S. As I was posting this, a humming bird flew by my (2nd story) window. Cool!

Most of us cruise along enjoying our lives (more or less) until something we don’t like, don’t want or approve of shows up. Enter – the challenge to stay deliberate about life. Does life happen to you or is life of your choosing?
I know, you’re saying: “Well Nanette, of course I wouldn’t choose for someone to be rude to me” or “I’d never choose to lock my keys in the car.” In my experience, the only consistently powerful way to live is by choosing what shows up whether you like it or not.
“What? I don’t get it.”
Okay, let me explain. When you complain about what results you’re getting or not getting, you’re essentially arguing with reality. You make excuses or justifications as to why it’s the way it is, as though you had nothing to do with the situation. It’s a victim frame of reference.
Those of us who want to live powerfully and live a life of deliberate creation know that the Universal Operating System, (aka – The Law of Attraction) matches and manages all energy. So whatever is showing up into your life experience is a direct reflection of your energy; a belief, expectation or some other unconscious driver.
When you take the cue that what you’re experiencing is a direct reflection of an inner (conscious or unconscious) belief, you’ll be able to trace the breadcrumbs back to where you need to shine the light on. The belief in unworthiness, struggle or scarcity drives most of us.
Not to worry. The first step is to notice. The second step is to accept yourself (feelings, beliefs and all) completely. The third step is to focus on increasing your feelings of love for yourself – no matter what!
Easier said than done? At first it may seem a bit odd or difficult. But if you’ll take the time and acknowledge and listen to your feelings – just as you would a sweet 4 year old, trust me, you’ll being to access a lot of your personal power. A huge amount of energy is tied up in those beliefs in low self-esteem, fear and struggle.
Your essential nature is love. Read my last blog post titled “Abundance Is Your Natural State.” One of my favorite teachers, Arnold Patent tells us “Whenever we lock up energy, which is the source of our power, we feel that power diminish and our vulnerability grow. The huge amount of love that is bottled up by your anger is just waiting to be reclaimed.”
Choose your life, like yourself and reclaim your power. Love, joy and peace are the most powerful creative influences on the planet. The best thing of all is that love, joy and peace are our natural essence.
Make it easy, choose joy. Let joy be the means to the end. Joy creates more joy. You’re it!
